
Newly-elected Ukraine’s President Petro Poroshenko stated that Ukraine is supposed to sign agreement on EU integration by late June. The politician is of the opinion that it is his first priority as a president. Speaking at his inauguration ceremony, he thanked the representatives of the European Union and United States for supporting Ukraine “in its aspiration to have freedom and justice as well as to keep cultural values of Europeans.” The Chocolate King added that he will tend to make Ukraine a full-fledged European country. “There is another European value for me. It is solidarity. Ukraine vitally needs your solidarity. So, thank you for all the support you gave the Ukrainians in the time the country was struggling for independency”. The billionaire also noted that EU integration as well as free trade zone with the European alliance and visa-free travel – all that is the part of his presidential mandate. “And that is not just a dream; these issues have been already high on the agenda and will be settled in the foreseeable future,” he said.
It should be noted that the EU association agreement suggests that EU import duties for most Ukrainian goods will be abolished. Besides, the export tariffs for the European production to Ukraine will be reduced gradually. Furthermore, according to the document, the both parties are obliged to collaborate in energy field. In particular, that means that Ukraine’s energy transit infrastructure will be modernized. The agreement will open up new opportunities for foreign investments inflow in the Ukrainian economy. Ukraine, in its turn should implement reforms on liberalization of the national economy. Summing up, Petro Poroshenko said that “modernization of the economy based on the experience of our European counterparts will help Ukraine to cure many problems.”
