An armed gang of 20 robbers attacked a factory of Samsung Electronics Co Ltd in Campinas, an industrial hub near Sao Paulo, the Washington Post reports. The bandits carjacked a shuttle used by factory employees and held hostage about 50 workers. According to Vitor Chaves, a police officer involved in the investigation, the raiders captured the security on duty. Then, the assailants robbed truckloads of smartphones, tablets, and notebooks. A spokesman for the state's public security secretariat said the bandits made off with seven trucks laden with more than 40,000 Samsung gadgets. The local police estimated the loot at up to $36 million. "We express great concern about the accident. Fortunately, no one was hurt. We have cooperated fully with the police investigation that is underway and will do our best to avoid any sort of repeat incident," a spokesman for Samsung Eletronica da Amazonia Ltd, the manufacturing unit of the Korean electronics giant in Brazil said.
