RTE Spiced Deli Ham Products, Pork Products Recalled

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has reported that Hormel Foods and Macgregors Meat and Seafood Ltd have issued recalls for certain products. Minnesota-based Hormel Foods is recalling approximately 945 pounds of their ready-to-eat spiced deli ham products due to incorrect branding and the undisclosed presence of milk, a common allergen.

The affected Hormel Foods products are 5-lb. portions or various sliced packages from retail delis labeled as "Hormel Spiced Ham With Natural Juices", with a lot code of 051424. The products are packaged in boxes labeled as "HML SPCD HAM-D SHAPE 9/5LB" with a case code 04472 and a shelf life date of 05/14/24-07. All products are marked with the inspection number "EST. 199" from the USDA. These items were packaged on November 17, 2023, and have been distributed to retail locations in Pennsylvania.

The recall was prompted when deli employees noticed cheese in the spiced ham product during slicing. Milk is not listed on the product's label as the spiced ham product contains no milk.

Furthermore, Ontario-based Macgregors is recalling about 2,745 pounds of its ready-to-eat frozen pork products because these were not presented for import reinspection into the U.S. The recalls include 1.5-lb. cartons of "44TH Street Slow Cooked BABY BACK RIBS MAPLEWOOD SMOKED SAUCE" and "44TH Street Glazed, Slow Cooked BABY BACK RIBS HONEY GARLIC SAUCE" with specific Julian dates. The recalled products carry the Canadian inspection number 566 and were shipped to various states including Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, New York, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.

The recall was initiated after the company informed the FSIS that the product did not undergo import reinspection.

Despite these recalls, no confirmed cases of negative reactions caused by the consumption of these affected products have been reported. Nevertheless, the FSIS has urged consumers and restaurants that may have these products in their freezers to either dispose of them or return them to the purchase location.
