Elon Musk's Tesla Recalls Around 2.2 Mln EVs Over Warning Lights Issue

Tesla (TSLA) is set to recall approximately 2.2 million electric vehicles in the U.S due to an issue with warning lights that could potentially cause accidents, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The recall affects a range of models, including the newly released Cybertruck pickup, the Model X, Model Y SUVs up to and including the latest 2024 model year, as well as the Model S and Model 3 sedans up to and including the 2023 model year.

According to the NHTSA, the issue lies in the warning lights for parking, antilock brake systems and brakes; they display with a smaller font than is allowed by federal safety standards. The NHTSA stipulates that these warning lights should have a minimum size of one-eighth of an inch.

The agency warned that due to the smaller font size, crucial safety information on the vehicle's instrument panel might be hard to read, therefore increasing the likelihood of a crash. Fortunately, Tesla reported that no injuries or accidents related to this issue have been reported thus far.

Tesla noted that owners of the affected vehicles won't need to take their cars to a service center to rectify the problem. Instead, the company will resolve the defect with an over-the-air software update.

In addition to this, last week, Tesla recalled approximately 200,000 vehicles due to faulty rearview mirrors which did not function properly when the cars were in reverse gear. This flaw could potentially heighten the risk of accidents.

Similarly, in December, Tesla was forced to recall 2 million units after an investigation report by NHTSA revealed that incorrect usage of Tesla's Autopilot self-driving feature could result in a crash.
