Japan Monetary Base Climbs 2.4% On Year In February

The Bank of Japan announced on Monday that the country's monetary base has risen by 2.4 percent year-on-year in February, tallying to 661.668 trillion yen. However, this figure fell short of the projected increase of 4.7 percent and saw a slight decrease from the revised gain of 4.8 percent in January, which was initially reported as 4.7 percent.

On an annual basis, the circulation of banknotes lessened by 0.6 percent, whereas the circulation of coins saw a larger decrease of 1.8 percent. On the contrary, there was a yearly increase of 3.1 percent in current account balances, which includes a similar 3.1 percent rise in reserve balances.

Meanwhile, the adjusted monetary base recorded a significant decline of 7.6 percent, settling at 668.572 trillion yen.
