Dutch Industrial Production Declines 5.5%

Industrial production in the Netherlands has been on a continual decline, with the most noticeable decrease occurring at the beginning of the year. The rate of this drop has been the most rapid seen in the past three months, according to data released by the Central Bureau of Statistics.

In January, industrial production fell by 5.5 percent compared to the same period the previous year. This followed a 1.7 percent contraction in December. This downward trend first began in April 2023.

Examining specific sectors, the steepest decline was seen in the transport equipment industry, which contracted by 14.34 percent. Close behind was the electrical and electronics equipment sector, which suffered a 9.1 percent drop.

On a month-on-month basis, January's industrial production reduced by 4.7 percent.

However, the outlook from industry producers in February was somewhat less negative than it was in January, mainly due to an increase in positivity regarding anticipated activity.
