Taylor Farms Pacific, based in Tracy, California, is recalling nearly 20,000 pounds of its ready-to-eat apple, walnut, and chicken salad bowl product sold under the Kroger brand. The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has announced this recall due to issues of misbranding and the potential presence of undeclared wheat, an allergen.
The recalled product comes in 5.5-ounce clear plastic bowls labeled "Kroger Apple Walnut With Chicken Salad Kit For One." They carry use-by dates between March 12 and March 22, 2024. Specific affected lot codes include TFPM059B41 through TFPM071A41.
Produced from February 28 through March 9, the ready-to-eat salads bear the establishment number "P-34013." The salads in question have been distributed to retail outlets in a dozen states, including Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming.
The recall was prompted during a routine ingredient label check, Taylor Farms Pacific discovered the misbranding and promptly informed FSIS that the product may include unmentioned wheat. No confirmed adverse health reactions related to consuming the product have been reported to date. However, as a precaution, consumers who bought the recalled product are asked to either discard them or return to the store for a refund.
Other recent recalls spurred by undeclared wheat include Stonewall Kitchen's Gluten Free Cinnamon Sugar Doughnut Mix and Vanee Foods, an Illinois-based company, that recalled around 9,564 pounds of Sysco's chicken flavored base product due to undisclosed wheat and soy.
