IBM Corporation announced on Friday its collaboration with the Spanish Government to develop basic AI models for Spanish and its co-official languages, including Catalan, Basque, Galician, and Valencian.
Alongside this agreement, both parties also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signifying their commitment in bolstering AI and AI supercomputing. This MoU is an effort to enhance the development and actual application of open, ethical, and responsible generative AI in Spain.
The MoU also highlights a shared vision to create a comprehensive pack of foundation models. These include both Large Language Models (LLMs) and Small Language Models, which are proficient in Spanish and its co-official languages.
"The MoU prioritizes a partnership in improving a suite of foundation models, including both LLMs and Small Language Models that are proficient in Spanish and its co-official languages," the company stated.
The partnership also expresses an intention to develop AI to assist in the discovery, development, and validation of novel materials. This is projected to enhance the sustainability of the semiconductors value chain.
