German Industrial Production Falls In March

Wednesday's report from Destatis indicated a decline in Germany's industrial production during March, largely due to a dip in consumer and intermediate goods output. Comparatively, the industrial production had increased by 1.7 percent in February whereas in March, it dropped by 0.4 percent. This is the first decrease noted this year, although it is less severe than the expected fall of 0.6 percent.

In the first quarter, there was a 1.0 percent increase in industrial output in comparison to the prior three months. If energy and construction are excluded, German industrial production also decreased by 0.4 percent for the month. However, energy output experienced a more significant fall of 4.2 percent monthly, whereas construction production saw growth of 1.0 percent.
