French Payroll Employment Rises More Than Estimated

The latest figures from INSEE, the French statistical office, reveal that France's payroll employment for the first quarter has seen a more substantial rise than earlier estimates had suggested.

Payroll employment experienced a 0.3 percent increase quarter-on-quarter, following a period of stability in the final quarter of 2023. This figure was revised up from the initial estimate of 0.2 percent.

The net creation of jobs amounted to 75,100, a significant climb compared to the prior period's rise of 8,900 jobs. This job creation rate surpasses the first quarter of 2023 by 0.7 percent, translating to an additional 185,700 jobs.

Private sector payroll employment saw a growth of 0.3 percent, rebounding from a mostly stable previous quarter. Conversely, public sector employment growth slowed to 0.2 percent from the previous quarter's 0.4 percent increase.

Temporary employment saw a slight decline of 0.1 percent, yet this reduction is less pronounced compared to the declines observed over the past four quarters.
