U.S. Durable Goods Orders Virtually Unchanged In August

In a report released by the Commerce Department on Thursday, it was revealed that new orders for U.S. manufactured durable goods remained virtually unchanged for the month of August.

The data indicated that durable goods orders were flat, following a significant 9.9 percent increase in July. This outcome defied economists' expectations, who had forecasted a 2.6 percent decline in orders.

However, when excluding transportation equipment orders, durable goods orders saw a modest increase of 0.5 percent in August, following a slight decrease of 0.1 percent in July. This result surpassed the anticipated marginal rise of 0.1 percent for ex-transportation orders.
