Canadian National Railway Co. (CNI, CNR.TO) announced that the labor union Unifor has filed a Notice of Dispute just three days into the commencement of negotiations. Unifor represents 3,300 Mechanical, Clerical, and Intermodal employees in Canada, all covered under three collective agreements set to expire on December 31, 2024.
A Notice of Dispute is submitted to the Canadian Minister of Labour by either negotiating party, typically leading to the appointment of a conciliation officer to aid in reaching an agreement.
CN expressed disappointment over Unifor's decision to file the notice so early in the process but reaffirmed its commitment to negotiating agreements that are beneficial to employees, customers, and the broader economy.
