U.S. Job Openings Unexpectedly Edge Higher In August

Job openings in the U.S. experienced an unexpected slight increase in August, as revealed in a Labor Department report released on Tuesday.

The report stated that job openings rose to 8.04 million in August, an adjustment from the previously revised figure of 7.71 million in July.

Economists had anticipated that job openings would remain steady at the initially reported 7.67 million from the previous month.

The report also indicated that the number of hires and total separations remained largely unchanged over the month, standing at 5.3 million and 5.0 million, respectively.

Under separations, the trend of declining quits persisted, dropping to 3.1 million, while layoffs and discharges showed little variation, holding at 1.6 million.
