Japan M2 Money Stock Climbs 1.3% On Year In September

The Bank of Japan reported on Friday that Japan's M2 money supply saw a year-over-year increase of 1.3 percent in September, totaling 1,252 trillion yen. This figure remains consistent with August's results but did fall short of the anticipated 1.5 percent growth rate. On a month-to-month basis, M2 grew by 1.0 percent, marking an acceleration from the previous month's 0.6 percent rise.

Additionally, the M3 money supply experienced an annual increase of 0.8 percent and a monthly increase of 0.7 percent. Meanwhile, the L money supply surged by 3.2 percent year-over-year and 1.8 percent month-over-month.

In the third quarter of 2024, the M2 money supply rose by 0.3 percent quarter-over-quarter and increased by 1.3 percent compared to the previous year. The M3 remained unchanged quarter-over-quarter but rose 0.8 percent from the previous year. In contrast, the L money supply gained 2.3 percent quarter-over-quarter and 3.2 percent year-over-year.
