Porsche 9-month Deliveries Down On Weakness In China, North America

Porsche AG, the German automotive giant, announced on Friday a decline in deliveries for the first nine months of fiscal year 2024. This downturn, primarily due to a 29 percent drop in China and a 5 percent decrease in North America, was countered by gains in Germany, other parts of Europe, and additional global regions.

Globally, vehicle deliveries fell by 7 percent to a total of 226,026 units, down from 242,722 in the previous year, largely attributable to constrained product availability. The transition and introduction phases for four of Porsche's six model lines—the Panamera, Macan, Taycan, and 911—are currently underway.

Specifically, in North America, deliveries decreased to 61,471 vehicles compared to last year's 64,487, impacted partly by supply constraints. In China, only 43,280 vehicles were delivered over the nine-month period, a significant drop from the previous year's 60,748 vehicles. This decrease can be attributed to the continued economic strains in China and Porsche's strategic emphasis on value-centric sales.

Conversely, domestic deliveries in Germany experienced an increase of 8 percent compared to the prior year, while Europe (excluding Germany) saw a modest 1 percent rise, and other overseas and emerging markets posted a 3 percent increase.

The Porsche Cayenne stood out with 77,686 units delivered, marking a 21 percent increase from the previous year, making it the top performing model during this period. The Macan, however, saw a decline of 20 percent to 55,000 units, influenced mainly by model transitions across numerous markets. Globally, deliveries of the iconic 911 sports car rose by 2 percent to a total of 39,744 units. In contrast, Panamera deliveries decreased by 20 percent, and deliveries of the Taycan plummeted by 50 percent.
