Romania Inflation Eases To 4.6%, Lowest In Over 3 Years

In September, Romania experienced its lowest consumer price inflation in over three years, according to data released by the National Institute of Statistics on Friday. The year-on-year increase in the consumer price index (CPI) was 4.6 percent, a deceleration from the 5.1 percent rise observed in August. This marks the lowest rate of inflation since June 2021, when it was recorded at 3.9 percent.

Breaking it down further, non-food goods saw a modest growth of 3.9 percent compared to the previous year, down from 4.4 percent in August. Conversely, food goods experienced a slightly accelerated increase of 4.7 percent. The cost of services also saw a marked rise of 7.9 percent, although this is an improvement from the 8.6 percent increase noted in the prior month.

On a month-to-month basis, consumer prices edged up by 0.3 percent in September.
