Wall Street Might Open Broadly Positive

The economic calendar begins the week on a quiet note, but investors are gearing up for key economic announcements, notably those concerning retail sales and industrial production later in the week.

Earnings reports will also be a focal point, with major corporations such as Bank of America, Citigroup, Goldman Sachs, Johnson & Johnson, UnitedHealth, Morgan Stanley, and Netflix set to release their quarterly earnings. Early indicators from the U.S. Futures Index hint at a generally positive opening for Wall Street.

As of 8:15 a.m. ET, Dow futures had dropped by 75 points, while S&P 500 futures rose by 10 points, and Nasdaq 100 futures advanced by 65.25 points.

In the previous session, major U.S. averages saw gains, albeit ending slightly below their peak levels for the day but remaining in firm positive territory. The Dow increased by 409.74 points, or 1.0%, to reach 42,863.86. The S&P 500 added 34.96 points, or 0.6%, closing at 5,815.03, and the Nasdaq rose by 60.89 points, or 0.3%, finishing at 18,342.94.

In economic events, Minneapolis Fed President Neel Kashkari is scheduled to partake in a panel discussion at the Central Bank of Argentina's Money and Banking Conference at 9:00 a.m. ET. Later, at 3:00 p.m. ET, Fed Governor Christopher Waller will speak on the economic outlook at the 'A 50-Year Retrospective on The Shadow Open Market Committee and Its Role in Monetary Policy' conference, hosted by Stanford University.

Kashkari will also engage in a lecture and fireside chat hosted by the Department of Economics at Torcuato di Tella University at 5:00 p.m. ET.

In the Asian markets, trading ended mixed with light activity on Monday. China's Shanghai Composite Index climbed 2.07%, closing at 3,284.32. Conversely, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index fell by 0.75%, ending at 21,092.87.

Japanese markets were closed due to a holiday.

Australian markets posted modest gains, closing near two-week highs. The benchmark S&P/ASX 200 rose 0.47% to 8,252.80, while the broader All Ordinaries Index increased 0.45%, concluding at 8,529.50.
