Amazon.com (AMZN) has revamped its Kindle e-reader series, introducing its inaugural model equipped with a color display.
The e-commerce giant unveiled four new Kindle models on Wednesday, including the Kindle Colorsoft, alongside updates to the basic Kindle, the Kindle Paperwhite, and the Kindle Scribe.
Since its initial launch in 2007, every Kindle device boasted a monochrome screen. However, responding to user feedback, Amazon has now introduced a color e-reader to its lineup.
Priced at $279.99, the Colorsoft is available for preorder today, with deliveries commencing on October 30th.
"The all-new Kindle Colorsoft introduces color to Kindle without compromise. It retains all the attributes users cherish about Kindle—high contrast, rapid page turns, an auto-adjusting front light, and weeks-long battery life—while adding vibrant color that's easy on the eyes. Now, you can explore book covers in color in your Kindle Library or Store, view images in color, and add color highlights that are easy to locate later," Amazon announced in a statement.
In addition, Amazon disclosed a new $399 Kindle Scribe, boasting enhanced note-taking features, as well as an updated $159 Kindle Paperwhite and the 12th-generation Kindle available for $109.
The advanced Kindle Scribe offers a distinctive in-book writing experience and improved note-taking functionalities. Its Active Canvas feature allows users to annotate directly within the book. The text adjusts around the note, maintaining its placement even amid changes in font size, style, or layout, thereby preserving the context and meaning.
Shortly, users will also have the option to jot down notes in the side panel and conceal them when done. Furthermore, an AI-powered notebook feature swiftly condenses extensive notes into concise bullet points in script font, facilitating easy sharing.
