New Zealand Building Permits Rise 2.6% In September

Statistics New Zealand reported on Friday that the total number of building permits issued in New Zealand experienced a seasonally adjusted increase of 2.6 percent in September, following a decline of 5.2 percent in August.

In September, 2,943 new dwellings received consent, which included 1,378 stand-alone houses, 1,091 townhouses, flats, and units, 277 apartments, and 197 units in retirement villages.

For the year concluding in September 2024, the actual number of newly consented dwellings totaled 33,677, reflecting a 17 percent decrease compared to the previous year.

The annual value of non-residential building work consented reached NZ$9.1 billion, marking a 6.4 percent decrease from September 2023 levels.
