Boeing Reportedly To Lay Off 2,500 Workers As Part Of 17,000 Job Cuts Across Global Workforce

Boeing (BA) is set to initiate layoffs affecting over 2,500 employees throughout its U.S. locations, including those in Washington, Oregon, South Carolina, and Missouri. This move is part of a larger plan to reduce its global workforce by 17,000 jobs, representing 10% of its total employees, as detailed in federal filings and reported by Reuters.

Approximately 2,200 workers in Washington and 220 in South Carolina, key sites for Boeing's commercial airliner production, will be impacted by these layoffs.

According to reports, the aerospace company started notifying affected U.S. staff on Wednesday. These employees will continue on the payroll until January 17, complying with the federal mandate for a 60-day notice period before job termination. Boeing intended to release the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) by mid-November, with expectations of further notifications in December.

In addition to direct layoffs, Boeing may utilize employee attrition, targeted hiring, and the divestiture of subsidiaries as part of its strategy to achieve workforce reductions.
