Southern Power, an integral U.S. wholesale energy provider and part of Southern Co. (SO), announced an expansion of its 29th solar initiative, the Millers Branch Solar Facility. This latest development, named Phase III, will add 132 megawatts (MW) to the facility, supplementing the 200 MW from Phase I and 180 MW from Phase II. Ultimately, the Millers Branch Solar Facility will boast a total capacity of 512 MW.
Situated in Haskell County, Texas, this project enhances Southern Power's growing portfolio of renewable energy assets that span from California to Maine. The company will oversee the ongoing development and construction of all phases of Millers Branch, with Phase III slated to commence commercial operation in the fourth quarter of 2026.
The incorporation of Millers Branch Phase III increases Southern Power's solar portfolio to over 3,050 MW of solar energy generation, either currently operational or under construction. Overall, these solar facilities are a crucial component of the company's 5,590 MW renewable energy fleet, which comprises 30 solar and 15 wind facilities, either in operation or being built.
