CAC 40 Edges Higher In Thin Pre-Christmas Trade

On Tuesday, French equities experienced a slight uptick amid light, shortened trading ahead of Christmas. Most European markets will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday in observance of the holiday.

Market participants were responding to the latest GDP figures released by the U.K. and Spain, alongside an announcement from China’s Ministry of Finance highlighting plans to boost public expenditure in 2025, with an increased emphasis on fostering consumption to stimulate economic growth.

The CAC 40 index rose by 30 points, or 0.4%, reaching 7,301, after registering a slight decline in the previous trading session.

Companies with ties to China, such as LVMH, Kering, and Hermes International, posted modest gains.

Alstom SA's stock increased by about 1%. The company disclosed receiving two additional orders from two unnamed European clients, totaling approximately €760 million, during December.
