FSIS Issues Health Alert For Bettergoods Chicken Curry Empanadas Sold At Walmart

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has issued a public health alert regarding bettergoods Chicken Empanadas available at Walmart Inc. stores. This alert is due to misbranding and the presence of an undeclared allergen.

The product in question contains Apple Cinnamon Empanadas, which include milk—a recognized allergen that is not identified on the product labeling.

The issue arose after the producer, Rajbhog Foods (NJ), Inc., alerted the FSIS following complaints from four customers. These customers reported that Apple Cinnamon Empanadas were mistakenly packaged in containers labeled for chicken curry empanadas.

FSIS advises individuals with milk allergies to refrain from consuming this product, as it could provoke an allergic reaction. However, the product has not been recalled because it is no longer available for purchase.

The affected product, packaged in 9.6-ounce boxes, bears the label "bettergoods TRADITIONALLY CRAFTED Chicken Curry Empanadas" with expiry dates of "BEST BY: 05/21/26" or "BEST BY: 05/22/26" and the establishment number "EST. P33967."

These products were manufactured on November 14, 2024, and packaged on November 20 and 21, 2024. They were distributed to Walmart locations across the country.

To date, no illnesses have been confirmed from the consumption of these products. However, anyone with concerns is encouraged to consult a healthcare professional.

FSIS recommends consumers discard the products or return them to the store of purchase, as some may still be stored in freezers.
