Viasat Lands $3.5 Mln Task Order To Expand Low Earth Orbit Satellite Services, Stock Down

On Monday, Viasat, Inc. (VSAT), a leading entity in satellite communications, announced that Inmarsat Government, one of its subsidiaries, had successfully acquired a Task Order for satellite communications under the Proliferated Low Earth Orbit, Satellite-Based Services, Indefinite Delivery, Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract.

This development marks Viasat's inaugural Task Order secured under this 10-year IDIQ contract, which has recently seen its ceiling value increased to $13 billion.

For this initial Task Order, valued at $3.5 million, Viasat will deliver LEO services in the Ku-band spectrum through a partner network to support a range of U.S. government functions at multiple international sites. The company is tasked with providing network management support, ensuring the availability of real-time data via an online account management tool. Additionally, Viasat will offer 24/7 technical support to ensure uninterrupted connectivity.

Initially awarded in 2023 by the U.S. Defense Information Systems Agency on behalf of the U.S. Space Force and Space Systems Command's Commercial Satellite Communications Office, this contract permits numerous vendors to offer satellite communications services.

Viasat's goal is to supply a comprehensive portfolio of fully managed Low Earth Orbit satellite-based services, incorporating space relay services. These services will be supplemented by satellites operating in both geostationary and non-geostationary orbits, thereby supporting missions across the space, air, land, maritime, and cyber domains.

In premarket trading, VSAT is priced at $9.22, reflecting a decrease of 4.16 percent or $0.40 on the Nasdaq.
