CAC 40 Recovers After Mild Setback

On Tuesday morning, French stocks experienced a slight increase after an initial downturn, as investors cautiously evaluated the implications of tariffs imposed or proposed by the United States on nations such as Canada, Mexico, China, alongside the European Union and the United Kingdom.

The CAC 40 index, which had dipped to 7,808.11, has risen to 7,877.33, marking a gain of 22.41 points or 0.28%.

BNP Paribas is advancing by nearly 2.5% following its announcement of a new share buyback scheme and a dividend that surpassed expectations.

Publicis Groupe, Dassault Systèmes, AXA, and ArcelorMittal are experiencing increases ranging from 1% to 2.5%.

Engie is up nearly 1%, while Veolia, Société Générale, Kering, Schneider Electric, Essilor, Accor, Capgemini, Bouygues, and Crédit Agricole are seeing modest gains.

Economically, France's government budget deficit shrank to €156.30 billion for the January to December period of 2024, compared to €173.26 billion in the same timeframe the previous year.

Additionally, new passenger car registrations in France fell by 6.2% year-over-year in January 2025, down from a 1.5% increase in December 2024.
