Brazil Unemployment Rate Rises to 6.8%

The unemployment rate in Brazil rose to 6.8% in the three-month period ending February 2025, marking the highest level observed since July of the previous year. This increase compares to 6.5% in the prior period and aligns with market expectations. The number of unemployed individuals surged by 10.4%, reaching 7.5 million, while the employed demographic decreased by 1.2% to 102.7 million. Additionally, those not participating in the labor force increased by 1.4%, totaling 66.9 million. In contrast, real income experienced an uptick of 1.3%, reaching BRL 3,378, the highest record since data collection began in 2012.
