Spain Jobless Falls More Than Expected

In March 2025, the number of individuals registering as unemployed in Spain dropped by 13,311 to reach 2.58 million, following a decrease of 6,000 in February and surpassing expectations of a 2,500 reduction. Unemployment decreased across several sectors: services saw a reduction of 14,461 people, industry by 1,498, construction by 909, and agriculture by 93. Regionally, the most notable declines were observed in the Valencian Community with a reduction of 4,905 people, Catalonia with 2,556 fewer unemployed individuals, and Galicia with a decrease of 1,822. Year-on-year, the number of registered jobseekers fell by 146,900 compared to March 2024. The data for March has yet to account for the typically positive effect of Easter-related hiring and has instead been influenced by unfavorable weather conditions. Concurrently, Spain added 23,079 net formal jobs, increasing the total to 21.5 million.
