China Food Prices Fall Much Softer

In March 2025, China's food prices experienced a year-over-year decline of 1.4%, which represents a moderation from the 3.3% drop observed in the previous month. This marks the second consecutive month of price reductions. The decline in the cost of fresh vegetables slowed to 6.8%, compared to a 12.6% decrease in February. Similarly, the prices for eggs, cooking oils, and milk saw less significant declines, with eggs decreasing by 1.6% versus 2.7% the prior month, cooking oils falling by 2.1% compared to 2.0%, and milk reducing by 1.7% versus 1.4%. On the other hand, fresh fruit prices experienced a rise of 0.9%, effectively reversing the 1.8% decrease seen in February.
