Indonesia Motorbike Sales Fall 7.2% in March

In March 2025, motorbike sales in Indonesia experienced a year-on-year decrease of 7.2%, totaling 541,684 units. This downturn follows a 4.0% increase observed in February, with the decline primarily attributed to diminished consumer purchasing power due to layoffs within certain companies. The introduction of additional motorbike taxes in 2025 further exacerbated the drop in sales. Analyzing month-over-month data, sales contracted by 6.8% in March, contrasting with a 3.7% rise in February. In the previous year, sales experienced a modest growth of 1.5%, culminating in 6.3 million units sold, which fell within the projection range of 6.2 to 6.5 million units as forecasted by the Association of Indonesian Motorcycle Industry (AISI). Looking ahead to 2025, AISI anticipates sales to reach between 6.4 and 6.7 million units, prior to the anticipated implementation of an additional motorbike tax. In response to these developments, AISI plans to revise its 2025 sales forecast to better reflect the impact of the tax policy and the prevailing economic environment.
