Slovakia Current Account Shifts to Deficit

Slovakia experienced a significant current account deficit of €667.4 million in February 2025, marking a notable downturn from the €66.9 million surplus observed in the same period the previous year. This shift can largely be attributed to the transformation in the goods account, which transitioned from a €350.8 million surplus in February 2024 to a €331.5 million deficit. Furthermore, the primary income deficit expanded, reaching €297.8 million from its prior level of €211.3 million. Contrasting these trends, the surplus in the services sector increased to €29 million, up from €9.8 million, while the secondary income deficit contracted to €67.1 million from €82.4 million.
