The United States has implemented new tariffs on solar imports originating from Cambodia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam—countries that collectively provide the majority of its solar panels. These antidumping and countervailing measures, determined by the Commerce Department, aim to address claims of unfair subsidies and pricing below market cost. This action follows a year-long trade investigation initiated during President Biden's administration at the behest of U.S. solar manufacturers. These duties are in addition to broader tariffs established under Donald Trump, who redirected support away from renewable energy initiatives towards fossil fuel projects. In the previous year, the U.S. imported solar equipment valued at $12.9 billion from the impacted nations.
