Taiwan Retail Sales Recover in March

In March 2025, Taiwan experienced a 0.4% year-over-year increase in retail sales, bouncing back from a 3.8% decline observed in the previous month. Notably, sales improved across several sectors: general merchandise rose by 4.3% compared to a sharp drop of 11.1% in February, food, beverages, and tobacco saw a 4% increase from a prior 5.1% decline, household appliances and goods were up by 1.3% against a 7.1% fall, and sales of other products grew by 4.4%, recovering from a 1.9% decrease. Meanwhile, certain sectors experienced reduced declines: textile and clothing sales fell by 4.3%, a significant improvement from a 21.6% drop, cultural and recreational goods slipped by 1% following a 7.3% decrease, fuel and related products decreased by 1.1% compared to 3% previously, and information, communications equipment, and electrical household appliances saw a slight decline of 0.5%, recovering from a 4% fall. On a monthly scale, retail sales rose significantly by 10.5% in March, marking a strong recovery from the previous period's 20.2% decline.
