Soybean Rally Stalls as US Planting Accelerates and China Tariffs Linger

Soybean futures recently steadied at approximately $10.40 per bushel, halting a recent surge yet staying near their peak level since February 10th. This development comes as investors assess swift advancements in U.S. soybean planting alongside ongoing trade tensions with China. The U.S. Department of Agriculture reported that as of Sunday, 18% of the soybean crop had been planted, surpassing the five-year average of 12% and analysts' projections of 17%. U.S. farmers are projected to cut soybean acreage in 2025 to its lowest in five years due to the prolonged trade conflict with China, the largest importer of soybeans globally. Although China has exempted some U.S. goods from tariffs, raising hopes of reduced tensions, U.S. grain exports continue to encounter substantial challenges, with Chinese tariffs likely remaining in effect for the foreseeable future.
