Japan's industrial production experienced a decline of 1.1% month-over-month in March 2025, overturning a previous 2.3% growth observed in February, and falling short of market predictions, which had anticipated a 0.4% decrease, according to initial data. This represents the second decline recorded within the year, primarily influenced by reductions in the production of motor vehicles, which fell by 5.9% compared to a 0.2% increase the month before. Additionally, declines were noted in electrical machinery, information and communication electronics equipment, which dropped by 4.4% following a prior rise of 1.1%, and in general-purpose and business-oriented machinery, which decreased by 5.0% after a 0.3% growth. Annually, industrial output decreased by 0.3% after a 0.1% uptick in February.
