Brazil's Lending Rises Moderately in March

In March 2025, the total value of outstanding loans in Brazil experienced a monthly increase of 0.6%, reaching R$ 6.5 trillion. This builds on the 0.4% rise observed in the previous month and marks the 15th consecutive month without any decline in outstanding credit volume. This trend highlights the sustained demand for loans despite the Central Bank of Brazil's rigorous rate hikes. The recent uptick was propelled by growth in credit extended to both businesses, which saw a 0.5% increase, and households, which grew by 0.7%. Although the annual growth rate slowed to 9.9% from 11% in February, when comparing to March 2024, credit expansion showed a deceleration for businesses, dropping to 7.4% from 9.9%, and for households, slightly easing to 11.5% from 11.7%.
