Japan Jobless Rate Inches Higher

In March 2025, Japan's unemployment rate saw a slight uptick, reaching 2.5%, compared to February's figure and market projections, both of which stood at 2.4%. The number of unemployed individuals rose by 50,000, totaling 1.73 million, while employment numbers declined by 80,000, bringing it to 68.08 million. The overall labor force decreased by 50,000 to 69.81 million, and the number of those not participating in the labor force increased by 30,000, reaching 39.94 million. The labor force participation rate, without seasonal adjustments, rose to 63.3% in March, up from 62.8% in March of the previous year. Additionally, the jobs-to-applications ratio increased to 1.26, following February's five-month low of 1.24, aligning slightly above the anticipated figure of 1.26.
