Austria Inflation Rate Rises to 3.1% in April

Austria's annual inflation rate climbed to 3.1% in April 2025, up from 2.9% in March, according to preliminary estimates. Statistics Austria Director General Tobias Thomas highlighted, "The primary factor contributing to this increase is the substantial rise in prices for package holidays compared to April of the previous year. This is attributed to the coinciding of Easter and school holidays in April this year, which also impacted the services sector, showing a year-on-year price hike of 4.8%. Services thus remain the principal driver of inflation, with their influence growing even more pronounced. Meanwhile, prices for food, tobacco, and alcohol rose slightly above the average at 3.2%. In contrast, energy prices experienced a more modest increase of only 0.7%, with significantly lower fuel prices largely offsetting the impact of higher electricity costs." On a month-to-month basis, consumer prices remained stable at 0.2% in April, consistent with the previous month.
