US Job Growth Exceeds Expectations Despite Tariff Uncertainty

In April 2025, the U.S. economy experienced an employment increase of 177,000 jobs. This marks a decrease from a revised count of 185,000 in March but notably exceeds the market prediction of 130,000. This job growth figure is in line with the average monthly addition of 152,000 jobs witnessed over the preceding year, despite uncertainties posed by President Donald Trump's assertive tariff strategies. Notable employment increases were recorded in the health care sector (+51,000 jobs), transportation and warehousing (+29,000), financial activities (+14,000), and social assistance (+8,000). In contrast, federal government employment saw a reduction of 9,000 positions.
