In March 2025, Bulgaria's industrial production experienced a significant downturn, contracting by 8.3% compared to the same month the previous year. This decline intensified from a revised decrease of 3.5% the month before. It marks the most severe contraction in a sequence of four months of declining industrial output. The steep fall was notably pronounced in the production of electricity, gas, steam, and air-conditioning supply, which plunged by 29.7%, a stark contrast to the 11.2% downturn observed in February. Conversely, there was a recovery in the mining and quarrying sector, with output increasing by 2.9% following a decline of 1.6%. Meanwhile, manufacturing output also showed signs of improvement by decreasing at a slower rate of 3.3% compared to the previous 5.6% reduction. When adjusting for seasonal variations on a monthly basis, industrial activity decreased by 3.6% in March. This marks the sixth consecutive monthly decline and the most pronounced, following a revised decrease of 0.5% in the preceding month.
