Malaysia's construction sector experienced a 16.6% year-on-year increase in activity during the first quarter of 2025. This represents a deceleration from the 23.1% growth observed in the previous quarter and marks the slowest rate of expansion since the first quarter of 2024. All segments saw a slowdown in growth: residential buildings experienced a 27.0% rise, compared to 38.9% in the previous quarter, representing 23.0% of the total construction activity. The construction of non-residential buildings increased by 21.0%, down from 24.6%, and held a 28.8% share of activity. Civil engineering projects grew by 3.7%, a decline from 9.3%, accounting for 36.6% of total construction. Special trade activities expanded by 35.5%, down from 44.9%, and made up 11.6% of the sector's total activity.
