In April 2025, consumer prices in El Salvador experienced a slight year-over-year decrease of 0.11%, following a modest increase of 0.14% in March. Notable downward price pressures were observed in the transport sector, which dropped by 5.53% compared to a 1.58% decline in March. Similarly, household equipment prices decreased by 1.75%, slightly more than March's 1.67% decline. Clothing and footwear saw a price reduction of 0.65%, down from a 0.52% decrease, while healthcare experienced a rise of 1.83%, although this was less pronounced than the 2.02% increase in the previous month.
Conversely, certain sectors observed upward price pressures, particularly in housing and utilities, which rose by 2.31% compared to 2.23% in March. Restaurants and hotels reported a price increase to 3.49%, up from 3.25%. Communication showed a slight improvement, with prices falling by 0.70%, a marginal recovery from the previous drop of 0.75%. Additionally, the prices of food and alcoholic beverages declined for the seventh consecutive month, decreasing by 0.63%, which was a slight improvement from the 0.98% reduction in March.
On a month-to-month basis, consumer prices inched upwards by 0.03% in April, a reversal from the 0.14% increase seen in March.
