Paraguay Trade Deficit Reduces in March

In March 2025, Paraguay experienced an expansion in its trade deficit, which reached US$422.99 million, up from the previous year's US$328.08 million. This shift resulted from a 6.4% decline in exports, totaling US$5,149.5 million. A significant factor contributing to this downturn was the sharp 17.4% drop in electricity sales, alongside decreases of 21.1% and 23.6% in flour and soybean shipments, respectively. On the contrary, imports rose by 3.2% to US$5,461.2 million. This increase was propelled by heightened consumer goods purchases (up 13.1%), particularly in food products (up 34.6%) and textiles (up 16.6%), in addition to an uptick in capital goods (up 25%) and domestic use products (up 8.2%). Meanwhile, there was a 16.6% contraction in the importation of intermediate goods.
