Colombia Q1 GDP Grows 0.8%

Colombia's economy experienced a 0.8% growth in the first quarter of 2025, surpassing the previous quarter's 0.6% and exceeding the anticipated 0.7% increase. This steady improvement in economic performance was bolstered by a more lenient monetary policy. Since late 2023, the central bank has reduced interest rates by four percentage points, resulting in a benchmark rate of 9.25%. At the April meeting, the central bank adopted a more cautious approach, citing global uncertainty and Colombia’s significant fiscal deficit as factors warranting caution. Moreover, persistent trade tensions between the United States and China continue to amplify uncertainty in the external environment, particularly given that the U.S. constitutes a major portion of Colombia's export market.
