In March 2025, Japan experienced a 0.2% increase in industrial production compared to the previous month, surpassing initial projections of a 1.1% decline. This development comes after a 2.3% rise in February, marking two consecutive months of growth. Notable increases were seen in the production of machinery, which grew by 7.1% compared to 8.3% in February, transport equipment (excluding motor vehicles) which rose by 6.6% following a previous decline of 9.0%, and chemicals which surged by 12.5% after a drop of 1.0%. On an annual scale, industrial output increased by 1.0%, building on a modest 0.1% rise in February and registering the third straight year of annual growth.
