Dutch Consumer Confidence Remains Negative

In May 2025, the consumer confidence indicator in the Netherlands remained steady at -37, marking its lowest point since October 2023 and significantly below its two-decade average of -10. Opinions on the overall economic climate remained unchanged at -61, as did perspectives on the economic situation over the past year at -64. Expectations for the coming year showed a slight alteration, standing at -58 compared to -59 previously. Evaluations of household finances worsened for both the past year and the upcoming year, registering -20 versus -18, and -9 compared to -8, respectively. Consumers demonstrated a decreased willingness to spend, dropping to -21 from -20, while sentiment on the appropriateness of making major purchases became further negative, decreasing to -36 from -34.
