Italy Current Account Surplus Widens Sharply

In March 2025, Italy experienced a significant expansion in its current account surplus, reaching €1.64 billion compared to €309 million in the previous year. This notable increase was primarily attributed to a shift in the primary income balance, which transitioned to a surplus of €1.07 billion following a deficit of €659 million in March 2024. Additionally, the secondary income deficit decreased to €1.82 billion from €2.14 billion. However, it is important to note that the goods surplus saw a reduction, falling to €4.74 billion from €5.23 billion, and the services deficit expanded to €2.36 billion from €2.11 billion.
