Argentina Economic Activity Expands for 5th Month

Argentina's economic activity index indicated a year-on-year increase of 5.6% in March 2025, slightly down from a revised growth rate of 6.0% in February, continuing an upward trend for the fifth straight month. The deceleration was noted in sectors such as manufacturing, which grew by 4.2% compared to 4.9% in February, and financial services with a 29.3% increase, down from 30.3%. Transportation also saw slower growth at 1.5%, down from 2.9%. The utilities sector, however, shifted into contraction, decreasing by 4.3% after a modest 0.2% growth the previous month. In contrast, there were notable accelerations in agriculture with a 6.0% growth (up from 4.2%), mining and quarrying at 5.7% (up from 5.2%), and construction, which surged by 9.9% compared to the previous 3.6%. Seasonally adjusted figures showed a 1.8% decline in output, although the trend-cycle indicator still rose by 0.2%.
