In April 2025, passenger car registrations throughout the European Union experienced a growth of 1.3% year-on-year, reaching 925,359 units. This rebound follows a slight dip of 0.2% observed in March. Despite ongoing uncertainties in the global economic landscape, Spain led this upturn with a notable rise of 7.1%, followed by Italy's increase of 2.7%. Conversely, there were declines in Belgium, Germany, and the Netherlands, with reductions of 4.8%, 0.2%, and 4% respectively. The segment of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) experienced a remarkable increase, with registrations spiking by 34.1%, largely propelled by Germany, which saw a significant surge of 53.5%. Despite a 1.2% year-on-year decline in overall car registrations for the first four months of 2025, sales of new battery-electric vehicles soared by 26.4% to 558,262 units, capturing a 15.3% share of the total EU market. Notably, three of the EU's four largest markets — Germany (up 42.8%), Belgium (up 31.3%), and the Netherlands (up 6.4%), together accounting for 63% of all BEV registrations — recorded strong gains, while France saw a decrease of 4.4%.
