Turkey Trade Deficit Smallest in 7 Months

In May 2025, Turkey's trade deficit experienced a slight increase to USD 6.5 billion, compared to USD 6.47 billion in the same month the previous year, according to preliminary data released by the Trade Ministry. Notably, this represents the narrowest trade gap observed since October 2024. The rise in exports by 2.7% year-on-year to a record high of USD 24.8 billion played a significant role, while imports saw a moderate increase of 2.1% to USD 31.3 billion. Over the initial five months of the year, Turkey recorded a trade deficit amounting to USD 41.4 billion, with exports up by 3.5% and imports escalating by 5.7%.
