China Caixin Manufacturing Unexpectedly Shrinks

The Caixin China General Manufacturing PMI fell unexpectedly to 48.3 in May 2025, down from 50.4 in April and below market expectations of 50.6. This represents the first contraction in the manufacturing sector in eight months and the sharpest decline since September 2022. The downturn was driven by reduced output and a renewed decline in new orders, with foreign sales decreasing more rapidly.
